Learning through free choice

What do children do in class when they have a fair amount of free choice in the activities they engage in? Here are but a few things in a day.
Finger painting, turned into hand painting and given the chance probably would have turned into body painting.

Water play is such a hit in our class.

Independently selecting to write in books.

Independently developing writing.

Creating, naming and writing about a dinosaur.

Independently creating kites by using paper scraps, scissors, hole punch, glue etc, all of which they have free access to use.
